Last week I suddenly developed a sensitive spot on the outer side of one of my teeth near the gum line. I called the dentist and they were able to get me an appointment for today. After examining the problem area, my dentist informed me that due to my high stress level, I tend to grind my teeth while I sleep. The grinding causes pressure on my teeth, which in turn weakened an older filling on the side of my tooth. The filling then coincidentally came out while I was brushing my teeth. He replaced the filling and I was on my way.
Tooth problem solved. Grinding problem...not so much. I'll have to write a blog about stress some other time. I'll try to determine what is causing my stress. Anyway, I fully expected a bill of $100 or more, but they only charged me for an office visit ($52). This blog was going to be a rant about the cost of dentistry/insurance, but I'm really glad it doesn't have to be.
